About John
John Bucher Herr studied at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland under the renowned guidance of Francesco Valentino and Robert Lawrence.
He has sung operas, oratorios, musicals and recitals. He has also sung in many churches. His recordings are heard around the world. He was the first Mennonite to sing opera.
John’s grandfather, Jacob L. Herr, had an unfortunate accident when he was 32 years old. He was kicked in the neck by a horse which resulted in the removal of his larynx. For the remainder of his life he was able to speak only in a whisper. Possibly, Providence has smiled on his grandson for the handicap of his grandfather.
